Dark Sky
International Dark Sky Community

If you have noticed low lighting around town, its because we are actively reducing light pollution and preserving our night sky.  On June 8 2018, Camp Verde was officially deemed a dark sky community by the IDA International Dark Sky Association. An IDA International Dark Sky community is a town, city, municipality or other legally organized community that has shown exceptional dedication to the preservation of the night sky through the implementation and enforcement of a quality outdoor lighting ordinance, dark sky education and citizen support of dark skies.

Camp Verde is the fifth dark sky community in Arizona, and the 20th designated dark sky community in the world. Other dark sky communities in Arizona are Flagstaff (the first in the world), Sedona, Big Park / Village of Oak Creek and Fountain Hills.

In October 2018, Town of Camp Verde hosted their first Dark Sky Festival to celebrate the recognition and all things dark sky.
